This is a combination of two antique quilts, both made around the mid century. We are obsessed with this Sun Bonnet Sue appliqué quilt and have never seen one of its type. The quilt was handmade for a childs bed and tells a story of a darling little gal who loves her animals.   All appliqués are done by hand and each appliqué is also hand embroidered. The quilt was also hand-quilted. Each solid square shows the Sun Bonnet Sue with a different farmyard animal. The gingham squares depict the same animal motif shown with the Sunbonnet Sue. It gives us major Pippi Longstocking Vibes.  Please note the little girls braids done in hand embroidery.  The quilt is a great representation of Americana and traditional hand crafts. This piece is absolute wearable Pop Art.  Both quilts are very, very soft luxe cotton, thin and lightweight with a great drape. It is very comfortable to wear. There are a few age marks on the sleeve but for the most part this piece is in meticulous condition. These appliqués are all free form--they did not come from a kit--and to have them stand the test of time in this way is a true gift.

  • One Size Fits Most - Model is 5’4 and approximately 125lbs

  • 2 Generous front pockets

  • 1 wooden color wheel button closure, which was made the same era as the quilts were made.

  • Blazer lapel Collar style

  • 1 Exaggerated vent in the center back Measurements

  • 51” top of the back of neck to the bottom of the hem

  • 21” laying flat, armpit to armpit, buttoned jacket

  • 25” shoulder seam to bottom of arm, uncuffed

Please note that all of our jackets are made from antique quilts and the fabric reflects this. Our fabrics are sometimes older than 100 years old and are perfectly worn. We believe this is what makes them special and is part of their charm. All of our garments are pre-washed in special restoration quilt wash. We recommend only spot cleaning if necessary.
