This is an antique American quilt made circa 1860s to 1890s. It is a traditional Endless Stairs quilt pattern. The quilt has been beautifully hand quilted and hand sewn. This piece fits into the scrappy genre and features fabrics from many other sewing projects. The most fascinating fabric is the backing fabric(inside of jacket). The maker used an old feedsack that clearly reads "Walhalla Cottons Mills Sheeting LL". This piece most likely was made around South Carolina, where this mill was located. This is a slice of American history and this is the kind of quilt Ralph Lauren imitated in the 80s. In our opinion, the quilt is thin, lightweight, soft, and has a little loft(puffiness). We used faux silver buffalo nickel buttons as closures. This is a true a true piece of American Folk Art. Overall, this quilt is in great condition for its age!
