This is an American antique Crazy Quilt top completed in 1896. We know this because the maker hand embroidered the date. We have preserved this provenance and displayed it prominently on the backside of the jacket as the focal point. In keeping with the crazy quilt genre, this quilt is filled with many different embroidery techniques and contains scraps from the maker’s sewing box. The quilt contains corduroy, velvets, felts, and wools. Crazy quilts are the original abstract and Pop Art. It blows our mind how this piece was made in 1896 but feels so present. We backed this quilt top with novelty Kaffe Fassett fabric. In our opinion, the quilt has a little weight and stiffness to it, but overall is an incredible piece of textile history PLEASE NOTE: There is a fabric that is fraying near the armpit, it was hard to capture in photographs. We believe this is what makes them special and is part of their charm. All of our garments are pre-washed in a special restoration quilt wash. We recommend only spot cleaning if necessary.
