This is an antique American quilt completed in 1886. We know this because the maker dated and signed their piece with a stamp, as it was popular at the time. It is however, smudged and difficult to read. None the less, we have saved this provenance and placed it on the inside of the jacket. This is a super elevated Irish Chain Quilt Pattern. This was made by a master. It is exquisite for its elevated border and museum-worthy hand quilting, and treadle quilting. We do not believe this was made in a humble home, the maker used a treadle sewing machine when the treadle was a modern piece of machinery. The treadle was used on the border. We love the contrasting calico brown fabric on the inside of the jacket. In our opinion, the jacket is thin, soft, lightweight, and has medium loft (puffiness). This is absolute wearable folk art! It is a museum worthy piece! Please note the sleeves are 3 inches longer than our standard Helen pattern. The quilt is in excellent condition for its age. Please note that all of our jackets are made from antique quilts and the fabric reflects this. Our fabrics are sometimes older than 100 years old and are perfectly worn. We believe this is what makes them special and is part of their charm. All of our garments are pre-washed in a special restoration quilt wash. We recommend only spot cleaning if necessary.
