This is a vintage American quilt made in 1983 by Thelma Bowman. We know this because the maker left us the gift of hand embroidering their name into the quilt. We have preserved this provenance and placed it on the inside of the jacket. This is a beautiful applique quilt. This piece has been meticulously hand appliqued and masterfully hand quilted! This piece is museum-worthy and exquisite for its tiny stitches. Lady has never seen another applique like this and won’t see it again. The maker made a little green worm climbing out of one of the apples, we highlighted this and placed it on the collar. For closures we used black copper glass buttons from the mid-century. The maker backed the quilt(inside of jacket) with cotton muslin fabric. In our opinion, the jacket is very thin, light weight(with very little loft, and made with the most luxe soft cotton. The jacket has a nice drape. This is a Lady Lancaster 10/10. On the inside of the jacket there are a few very faint and very small age spots. Overall, the quilt is in excellent condition. We believe this is what makes them special and is part of their charm. All of our garments are pre-washed in special restoration quilt wash. We recommend only spot cleaning if necessary.
