The Aunt Ethel

This is an American antique quilt made circa 1890’s to 1920’s. It is traditional Nine Patch quilt pattern. This piece is hand quilted and hand sewn. We were able to score this piece from a Lancaster Pennsylvania auction, this piece is a quintessential Mennonite quilt. This is a summer weight quilt.  Summer weight quilts were made for aesthetics not for warmth. As a result, this quilt has no batting or loft (puffiness). PLEASE NOTE: the tiny polka dot red fabric on the inside of the jacket, this makes the quilt completely reversible and also offers many different styling options. Please see the video for the illustration of this. In our opinion this piece is extremely thin and very lightweight. It has the perfect floppy and very flattering drape. There is a patch on the quilt that can blends into the outside of the jacket but can be seen on the inside. Overall, this quilt is in excellent condition for its age! • The shawl collar allows for several different style options. This jacket is meant to be worn right side up or upside down.
• This jacket has two clear snaps that disappear into the fabric at the bottom of the shawl collar to help the lapel drape nicely.
• The Aunt Ethel has slouchy shoulders and a generous fit, keeping in line with its bohemian roots.

 Please note that all of our jackets are made from antique quilts and the fabric reflects this. Our fabrics are sometimes older than 100 years and we believe that makes them perfectly imperfect. This is what makes them a one-of-a-kind piece of art. All of our garments are pre-washed in a special restoration quilt wash. We recommend spot cleaning if necessary.
