This is an American antique hand embroidered Redwork quilt completed in 1923. We know this because the maker signed their art. This date is proudly displayed on the front chest of the quilt. The quilt is overflowing with embroidered designs from the turn of the century. From a distance it may look like some of the squares have tanning marks but it does not. The appearance of tanning comes from the maker using two different kinds of backing fabric. We used antique hand painted wooden buttons as closures. This maker was an absolute master, her hand quilting and embroidery stitches are museum-worthy. The quilt is a summer weight quilt, meaning it was not made for warmth but rather for aesthetics and contains to loft or batting. This piece was designed to show off the maker's skills and handwork. There are a few age marks on the back of the quilt (inside of the jacket) they do not show through to the front of the jacket. The quilt is in excellent condition for its age. This jacket is designed to be oversized but to best fit the motifs it is a size MEDIUM. Please read the measurements below to understand best fit!
