This is an American, antique quilt completed in 1911 by a seven year old with the initials G.M. This piece is extraordinary in every single way! This art form is called Red Work, which, is hand embroidery done with red embroidery thread. This piece has also been hand quilted beautifully. Red Work became popular in the late 1870's. It took the name from an embroidery thread known as Turkey Red. The best way we can explain this is to say it is nothing short of a master piece. It is in pristine condition for its age. We have tried to provide a multitude of photos so that you can enjoy each and every hand embroidered square for yourself. This quilt is a summer weight quilt with little to no batting and loft. It is a beautiful quality cotton and muslin. We have used black antique wooden buttons with a brass center. I hope you enjoy looking at this piece as much as we have enjoyed working with it.
