The is an American, antique quilt made circa 1890-1910. It is a 6 point star pattern inside of a honeycomb. This piece was found in rural Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and is in excellent condition for its age. As very few quilts like this have stood the test of time. It is beautifully hand quilted and hand sewn. Which is a labor of love and a lost art. Perhaps the pièce de résistance is the stunning fabric used on the back of the quilt (inside of the jacket) which we have illustrated multiple times in the listing photos. Please note this fabric is a little bit more purple than the photos read. We consider this quilt to be medium weight and medium thickness. It shows age marks and discoloration throughout on the white or ivory fabrics. This beauty also contains fabric from mens shirt scraps. It is a true piece of American folk art. If you are familiar with our Helen style you will know that these jackets are made to be worn on the reverse but not all Helen's look as good as this piece will look when the jacket is reversed. Please see photos for more detail. This jacket was given a storybook tag from 1903. Please note that we have only sewn one pocket on the front because it was impossible to map the quilt pattern on the second pocket. If you purchase this jacket and decide that you want two pockets regardless of the patten integration we will be happy to sew a second pocket on for you. This is a decision of practicality verses aesthetics that we will leave up to the next owner of this beauty.

  • This is a very lightweight quilt and also thin. It hugs the body beautifully. It also moves and drapes exceptionally well.

Please note that all of our jackets are made from antique quilts and the fabric reflects this. Our fabrics are sometimes older than 100 years old and are perfectly worn. We believe this is what makes them special and is part of their charm. All of our garments are pre-washed in a special restoration quilt wash. We recommend only spot cleaning if necessary.
