This is an Antique American quilt. Made circa 1870s-1900. It is a Traditional Flag Quilt Pattern. This piece is exceptional for its tiny pieces, crisp points, hand quilting, and meticulous hand sewing. The quilt top was made circa 1870's to 1890's in Somerset County, Pa. The family tells us that it was backed and completed by the makers granddaughter. It is a multigenerational quilt. It is rare to have brown fabrics from the turn of the century to stand the test of time in this way. This neutral palette is extremely rare and highly coveted. We are thrilled to have worked with this piece. The maker's granddaughter chose an ivory floral calico fabric for the backing which can best be appreciated when the cuffs are rolled or the jacket is worn upside down. The quilt does have some color bleed and tanning throughout. We have done our best to highlight this in some of the close photos in this listing. This beauty is absolute wearable Folk Art. In our opinion this piece is soft, thin, light weight, with loft (puffiness). If you have further questions please direct message us and we are happy to send you a video.

Please note that all of our jackets are made from antique quilts and the fabric reflects this. Our fabrics are sometimes older than 100 years and we believe that makes them perfectly imperfect. This is what makes them a one-of-a-kind piece of art. All of our garments are pre-washed in a special restoration quilt wash. We recommend spot cleaning if necessary.
