This is an authentic, antique American quilt made circa the 1890s-1920s. This piece has been beautifully hand-quilted and hand-sewn, which is a labor of love and a lost art. This quilt pattern can be referred to as a Sage Bud or a Mexican Star quilt pattern according to Barbara Brackman's quilt encyclopedia. Please take a moment to appreciate the beautiful brown feathered fabric on the back of the quilt, and inside of the jacket. This can best be appreciated when the cuffs are rolled or the jacket is worn upside down. If you love to wear our Ethel jackets upside down, this is an excellent piece for you. Please see the photos at the end of the listing for an example of how this jacket looks when worn upside down.
In our opinion, this quilt is very thin, very lightweight, soft, with the perfect drape.
This jacket has two clear snaps that disappear into the fabric at the bottom of the shawl collar to help the lapel drape nicely.
- The Aunt Ethel has slouchy shoulders and a generous fit, keeping in line with its bohemian roots.

Please note that all of our jackets are made from antique quilts and the fabric reflects this. Our fabrics are sometimes older than 100 years and we believe that makes them perfectly imperfect. This is what makes them a one-of-a-kind piece of art. All of our garments are pre-washed in a special restoration quilt wash. We recommend spot cleaning if necessary.
