The Aunt Ethel features a cropped look. This is an antique American quilt made circa the 1890s to 1915. This piece is extraordinary because it is expertly hand quilted and also hand pieced which means each tiny piece was hand sewn together. No sewing machines were used to make this piece of art. This is a lightweight jacket and thin quilt. For its age, this quilt is in great condition. There is some sun bleaching which you can see in the photos and does not affect the integrity or structure of the fabric and in our opinion only adds to the allure. There is one specific fabric in this quilt that we believe to be a scrap of upholstery fabric and we have strategically placed that beautiful fabric on the back left-hand side of the jacket. This piece will look beautiful upside down as the back of the quilt, inside of the jacket, has a stunning brown contrasting fabric.
This is a very light weight, very thin quilt.
The shawl collar allows for several different style options. This jacket is meant to be worn right side up or upside down.
This jacket has two clear snaps that disappear into the fabric at the bottom of the shawl collar to help the lapel drape nicely.
The Aunt Ethel has slouchy shoulders and a generous fit, keeping in line with its bohemian roots.
One Size Fits Most
Please note that all of our jackets are made from antique quilts and the fabric reflects this. Our fabrics are sometimes older than 100 years and we believe that makes them perfectly imperfect. This is what makes them a one-of-a-kind piece of art. All of our garments are pre-washed in a special restoration quilt wash. We recommend spot cleaning if necessary.
