This piece is considered a Scrap Quilt as well as a Crazy Quilt. The maker used scraps from her fabric stash to complete this piece as opposed to going to a fabric store and buying new fabric off of a bolt. The fabrics contained are wools, crepes, and flannels. We love the geographic pop that the mixture of colors and textures provide in this piece. The quilt is hand knotted and secured with the charming red discs that you see throughout. We have added two antique embellishments that we repurposed from ornate honorary ribbons. We have added antique military peacoat buttons down the front as closures. The inside of the jacket (back of the quilt) is a collage of poly-blend fabrics and as a result has a little bit of stretch. In our opinion this quilt is thin with little batting or loft, heavier than most thin quilts and has a very good drape. It is an applique quilt. It is very rare to see an applique quilt made with indigo fabrics, but even more exceptional is the hand embroidered two birds in a bush motif around the border of the quilt. This is Lancaster County Pennsylvania Dutch folk art. It is very rare and unusual. The quilt is hand appliqued, hand quilted, and hand embroidered. There is an overall distress and faded look to the indigo. In some places there is tanning and yellowing on the white background around the border. However we were not willing to sacrifice the border to cut out the age marks. This piece is a true rescue and in our opinion well worth it. The quilt is a summer weight, it was never meant for warmth but for aesthetics. It is thin, soft, light weight and has a wonderful drape. We attached distressed Levi trucker Jacket sleeves and collar. We selected round wooden buttons as closures. Please note, we made the pockets larger on this duster in order to preserve the applique.  As a result the pockets may appear baggy. This piece is spectacular for its hand quilting. Each stripe has a different quilted motif. For example the blue stripe is quilted with tulips, the red stripe is quilted with stars, the ivory stripe is quilted with leaves, and the olive stripe depicts the Greek key. This piece is a true rescue, as it has lots and lots of mends on the khaki\/brownish color stripe. There are some areas of sun bleach throughout. We had a little fun with a play on stripes by reversing the direction the stripes run on the front two panels and pockets. We cannot emphasize enough that this piece is a rescue and shows wear and mending throughout and is priced according. We have used a vintage army jacket for the sleeves.  For closures we have attached 6 Mother of Pearl or Abalone shell buttons that were made during the same era as the quilt. In keeping with the history of the quilt, for a tag we included a page from a historic children's fabric book from the turn of the century. There is some light discoloration on the ivory colored fabric of this quilt, it is so light that we could not capture it with our camera, you may be able to catch it in our video at the end of this listing. In our opinion this piece is thin, light weight, super soft, and has a great drape. To add to the overall aesthetic and warmth we affixed a detachable genuine long hair fur. It is super soft and luxe. For closures we used 5 elongated wooden toggle buttons. We do not believe that this quilt was ever used and it has very little to no wear. Due to that this jacket has a bit more structure to it and will not hug the body.
